Bulgaria’s President Rumen Radev met in Tokyo with Japan’s Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba as part of his visit to Japan. Rumen Radev and Shigeru Ishiba signed a joint declaration on elevating bilateral relations between Bulgaria and Japan to the level of a strategic partnership. The document covers political dialogue, economy, culture, education, research and development, etc.

"If until recently Bulgaria was known in Japan mainly for its yogurt, the Rose Valley and strong sumo wrestlers, today Bulgaria offers various opportunities of mutual interest in the high-tech sectors of the future", President Radev said at a joint press conference with the Japanese Prime Minister.

President Radev emphasized the strong interest in the Bulgarian pavilion at the Expo 2025 Osaka, which offers visitors the opportunity to "see Bulgaria’s achievements in high technology, artificial intelligence, information technology, the space sector, education and science."
