In Rome, Bulgarian Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov met the Grand Chancellor of the Order of Malta, Riccardo Paternò di Montecupo. Zhelyazkov emphasised that Bulgaria values the Order's noble and humanitarian activities, which align with the shared commitment to peace and universal human rights.

The Prime Minister noted that the Order's continuous efforts to safeguard human life and dignity, and support vulnerable people, individuals with disabilities, children, the elderly and those in need worldwide, deserve the highest recognition. Zhelyazkov expressed confidence that Bulgaria would continue to develop its cooperation with the Order.

Last year marked the 30^(th) anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and the Order of Malta.
