At today's meeting, the Bulgarian government decided to open an honorary consulate in the Republic of El Salvador. Miguel Alejandro Gayegos García, an El Salvadoran citizen, has been appointed as the Honorary Consul, based in San Salvador, with consular jurisdiction over the entire territory of the Republic of El Salvador.

Bulgaria currently has no diplomatic mission in El Salvador. Traditionally, the Bulgarian ambassador to Mexico is also accredited to El Salvador. Appointing an honorary consul in El Salvador will create new opportunities to further develop and strengthen Bulgarian-Salvadoran relations for the benefit of both countries.

Mr Gayegos García is a respected figure in Salvadoran society with extensive contacts at various levels of the country's business and public life. According to the government press office, he owns a successful business and has the capacity to effectively carry out the functions of an honorary consul.

The Honorary Consul will assist Bulgarian citizens in El Salvador.
