One of the titles that will be part of the National Theatre's repertoire in 2026 is already known. This is "The Physics of Sorrow", directed by Slovenian director Jernej Lorenci. This is not his first collaboration with Bulgarian actors — his interpretation of the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, titled "Orpheus", earned three Icarus Awards in 2023 for Directing, Best Performance and the Audience Award.
The casting for the actors who will take part in the play based on Georgi Gospodinov's novel will take place in November in the presence of the Slovenian director. The novel has already been adapted and staged once in 2017, again by Slovenians, but in Blagoevgrad. In 2016, world-renowned director and animator Theodore Ushev created an animated film based on Gospodinov’s short story "Blind Vaysha". The film was narrated in Bulgarian by actress Teodora Duhovnikova and featured music by Nikola Gruev – Kottarashky.
