An opera festival will be held in Belogradchik, announced the Minister of Tourism, Miroslav Borissov, during a parliamentary session.

In May, MP Lyuben Ivanov raised the question of the future of the tenth edition of 'Opera of the Peaks' in front of the emblematic limestone pillars. However, due to a lack of timely funding, the municipality announced that the Sofia Opera and Ballet would not be participating, and that the festival would probably not go ahead.

Academician Plamen Kartalov, creator of ‘Opera of the Peaks’ and director of the Sofia Opera House.
‘Not only will this festival take place, but a lot of effort has been put into making it happen,’ said Borshosh. 'Yes, it will be a different state opera, but the festival will take place. There will also be many more (events - ed.), which we have discussed with the mayor and which will receive support,' the minister promised.

The ten-day festival, which usually attracts audiences from Bulgaria and abroad, takes place in mid-August.
