Tighter controls on main roads, tougher penalties for violators and improved traffic management during the summer months — these were the measures ordered by Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov at the start of the Cabinet meeting.
In light of the summer holiday season and the increased traffic flow toward the Black Sea and the border crossings with Greece and Turkiye, Premier Zhelyazkov emphasized that the government will not allow chaos or a sense of lack of control on the roads.
Rosen Zhelyazkov said that driving in the emergency lanes on motorways will be strictly penalized. He also noted that meetings have been held with Bulgaria’s Minister of Interior Daniel Mitov to coordinate the measures. The number of patrol teams will be increased, including in sections with reduced road capacity due to roadworks, infrastructure limitations and other factors.
