Doctors without a speciality and nurses should receive a minimum wage of 150% of the average salary in the country. This was proposed at a round table in the National Assembly by protesting doctors from the “Future in Bulgaria” initiative, BNR reporter Elena Beikova informed.
The draft law also provides for additional remuneration for additional qualifications as the percentage is higher if the knowledge was acquired in another EU Member State. In addition, the young doctors are proposing a higher rate for night work, as well as the introduction of a 1:10 ratio between the lowest and highest salaries of medical specialists.
However, these proposals were criticized by the Bulgarian Medical Association and the chairman of the parliamentary health committee, Kostadin Angelov. Fears were expressed that the best specialists would leave the country because of the income ceiling.
A day earlier, the health committee decided to submit by July 28 a bill regulating minimum requirements for the remuneration of medical workers.
