The fees in the paid form of education in higher education institutions will not exceed 60% of the cost of education of a student in the state-funded system, the National Assembly has finally decided, BNR reporter Violeta Ashikova informed.

According to amendments to the Higher Education Act, for current students the amount of fees cannot be higher than 20 percent. This also applies to students in the 2025-2026 academic year, after which the amount for them can gradually increase in the following years. The MPs rejected the PP-DB proposal that the fee for a student admitted in a certain order cannot increase by more than 20% for the entire period of education.

"We will discuss with the rectors and students a mechanism for predictable growth tied to an index, so we can find a more reasonable solution tied to the growth of the average salary and the growth of inflation, which correspond to the growth of expenses for remuneration and maintenance of higher education institutions, respectively," Minister of Education Krasimir Valchev said.
