Cultural calendar to boost summer and winter tourism

The National Tourism Board will create a cultural tourism calendar for the country, announced Martin Zahariev, Deputy Chairman of the Board, during the "Destination Bulgaria in Focus for 2026" conference, as reported by the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA).

The past summer season was the most successful for Bulgaria since the pandemic, and forecasts for the upcoming winter season are also optimistic, said Irena Georgieva, Deputy Minister of Tourism.

From June to September, more than 5.2 million tourists stayed in the country, with 19.5 million overnight stays. This represents a 4.2% increase in tourist numbers and a 3% rise in overnight stays compared to 2024. Bulgarians make up the majority of tourists in the country. Among foreign markets, leading countries include Romania, Ukraine, Poland, the United Kingdom, and Germany. Compared to 2024, there has been a significant increase from key markets, including Turkey (+60%), Germany (+28%), France (+12%), Greece (+12%), Romania (+9.5%), and Italy (+9.3%).
