Bulgaria’s Plovdiv officially announced European Capital of Culture

At a meeting in Brussels, the Council of Ministers of Culture of the 28 EU Member States formally announced Bulgaria’s Plovdiv and the Italian city of Matera as the European Capitals of Culture in 2019. Plovdiv is the first Bulgarian city that receives the recognition. Under the motto "Together" the Bulgarian city will present its rich and multilayer culture and new opportunities in the sphere of arts, culture and sports will be created for its residents, the European Commission Representation in Bulgaria has reported. The official nomination of the Council was received by Plovdiv Mayor Ivan Totev.
