Soon after the popular Bulgarian brand Pravets resumed the manufacture of its computers, the young ideologists employed at the company provoked again consumer’s interest with their latest product - a smartphone. The interest towards the new Bulgarian smart device is huge. I spent only twenty odd minutes in the shop and saw nearly 10 customers there. Some of them bought the new smartphone, others only required information about that device. The store’s sales manager Georgi Barov contends that the shop is busy throughout the whole week, because the new Pravets smartphone offers good working characteristics at reasonable price. The smartphone appeared on the market only two weeks ago. However, many Bulgarians and foreign nationals have been showing huge interest towards the Bulgarian smart device. This smartphone outruns its competition with its weight, too. It weighs only 100 grams. Its battery lasts for two days, if customers use the Internet reasonably. Pravets smartphone uses the widely popular Android operational system. Its touchscreen has a very good HD resolution. The phone has two slots for SIM cards and a separate slot for a memory card. It is equipped with a front 2 megapixel camera and a rear 8 megapixel one.
Georgi Barov told Radio Bulgaria that sometimes people ask the company whether Pravets smartphone is a Bulgarian product.
“Our company created the design of the smartphone. Moreover, the people who assemble the smart device are Bulgarian citizens. The company pays salaries, social security contributions and taxes in Bulgaria and the profit is made by a Bulgarian firm. Of course, the touchscreen and the plates are not manufactured in Bulgaria. We order them at our own specification and design and do the rest of the job here in the country.”
The smartphone’s battery, touchscreen and plates are made in China and Taiwan.
Although the smartphone appeared at the market only two weeks ago, the Pravets team enjoys mainly positive reports and comments from its clients and the company faced unexpected problems due to the huge interest towards the smartphone:
“Currently our biggest problem is that we are not able to meet the increased market demand. Most of the people want to buy the device immediately, but sometimes they have to wait for a week or two. We thought we manufactured enough devices, but the smartphone gained quick popularity and people want to buy it now”, Georgi Barov went on to say.
The school mini-laptop/tablet of the same Pravets brand appeared on the market at the same time. It was developed especially for pupils. It is in fact a flexible laptop and its keyboard can be folded at the back of the device. Thus, the laptop looks exactly like a tablet. Meanwhile, it is very light and weighs only 800 grams. It is equipped with software which connects with portable school desks. Thus, the image shown at the desk is also shown on the laptop’s screen. Unfortunately, there are only few portable desks in Bulgaria.
The team which develops and manufactures Pravets smartphone will rely mainly on the brand name, the reasonable price and the good quality of its product. The company came up with the proposal that the state administration should be equipped with computers and smartphones of the local Pravets brand.
The enthusiasts from Pravets Computers are planning to develop in the near future a tablet and a gaming laptop, whose Ram memory will be much stronger as compared to the conventional laptop.
How good ideas are born? Here is what Georgi told Radio Bulgaria:
“Everything started as a joke. Our manager told some of his friends: Why don’t we make some Bulgarian products. He found out that the trademark was available and registered it. This was how it all began. Good ideas are usually born somewhere outside, when we go out together and talk about things in life. Then we say: Well, we can do that as well. We came up with other very interesting ideas and we are to make them public later on”, Georgi Barov concluded. ”
