"There is no other country in Europe to have reacted so quickly and to have returned refugees”, Bulgarian Prime Minister told the press after an emergency meeting that he called in Blagoevgrad over the passage of the border with Greece by two large groups of illegal migrants. He also said that coordination between authorities had been quite good and thanked border guards and investigators. “Please, bear in mind that that the groups of migrants had been told they would go to Macedonia. They did not know they would enter Bulgaria. Each has paid 200 euro to a people smuggler who speaks Greek. The Greek authorities do not know his identity but now with the help of security services we will try to identify him”, PM Borissov was quoted as saying by Focus News Agency. Two groups of migrants were detained early on 28 May. One of the groups entered Bulgaria via the green border not far from Kulata border crossing and the other was found in a freight train coming from Greece. The illegal migrants from the train have been handed over to the Greek authorities, Focus quoted Border Police Director Antonio Angelov as saying. He said that 96 migrants in total had crossed the border. He expects that the second group will be returned to Greece in about ten days.According to Angelov quick reaction of the country to the migrant issue was due to the successful Border 2016 exercise.
