More than half a million people in Bulgaria receive support under European programme for the socially disadvantaged

More than 550,000 people received support last year under the European programme Food and Basic Material Assistance – packages of staple foods and nine kinds of sanitary items.

Almost 70,000 people from 232 municipalities have availed themselves of the Warm Lunch initiative under the same European programme. Under the social support for the youngest project, which has been in place since December last year, disadvantaged families, or families in which there exists a risk of abandonment of newborn babies, will receive a package of essentials for an equal start. The parents are also provided medical consultations, and receive employment, training or retraining guidance.
