People with hearing impairments want sign language to become official

Mitko Yakimov, chairman of the Deaf Unlimited Bulgaria Foundation said, in an interview for the Bulgarian National Radio, that 12 organizations of people with hearing impairments have submitted a request to the National Assembly for sign language to be recognized as official.

The foundation has conducted a national survey, as a result of which a Bulgarian sign language dictionary has been compiled, as well as a scientific description of its grammar. The main aim of the demand to officially recognize sign language, via the constitution, is so that people with impaired hearing may have equal rights with everyone else.
