Sofia-born writer Prof. Michael Bar-Zohar to run for president of Israel

The prominent Israeli writer with Bulgarian roots, Prof. Michael Bar-Zohar, is a candidate for president of Israel, bTV reports. 

Prof. Bar-Zohar is the author of one of the most exciting books about the rescue of Bulgarian Jews during the Second World War entitled "Beyond Hitler's Grasp". His uncle took part in the rescue of the Jews in the town of Kyustendil in early 1943. 


Prof. Michael Bar-Zohar was born in 1938 in Bulgaria and left the country when he was 10 years old. He later pursued a scientific career and served two terms as a member of the Knesset. 

He is well acquainted with the biggest names of Israel's political elite and he himself belongs to it.  After participating in Mossad actions, he wrote books that enjoyed great interest.
