In the last 6 years, there was only one team in Bulgaria which is part of the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds. Poison baits are the main reason for the extinction of a large part of the vulture population. More than 900 vultures have been poisoned to death in the Balkans in the last 20 years, but not a single case has ended up in court yet, because it is difficult to find the perpetrators. In 2021, a National Plan for Combatting Poisons was adopted, which envisages cooperation between the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Agriculture.
