Bulgaria will continue to be a reliable supplier of energy resources to Hungary, President Rumen Radev said after a meeting with his Hungarian counterpart Tamás Sulyok in Budapest. In response, the Hungarian head of state pointed out that Bulgaria plays a key role in the transit of Russian natural gas supplies to his country.

The two presidents also discussed the war in Ukraine. According to Rumen Radev, every day of this war means a loss not only for Russia and Ukraine, but also for all EU member states.

"We jointly condemn Russia's aggression and have supported Ukraine, especially with humanitarian aid, from day one and are convinced that diplomatic instruments must be found as soon as possible to end it. This will not happen with more weapons, with NATO member states sending troops to the territory of Ukraine," the Bulgarian head of state added.

Tamás Sulyok also expressed the position that the war in Ukraine should be resolved through diplomacy. "Hungary strongly condemns the Russian aggression and stands by the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. We continue to provide humanitarian assistance to our neighbour," he stressed.

Radev and Sulyok are scheduled to open a Bulgarian Cultural and Educational Center, which will house the educational and cultural institutions of the Bulgarian community of nearly 6,300 people. The Bulgarian minority was recognised in 1993 and has a representative in the Hungarian National Assembly.

During the visit, Rumen Radev also met with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, BNR's envoy Mira Stefanova reported.
