Bulgaria’s southern Black Sea coast continues to welcome hundreds of thousands of holidaymakers even after the peak of the tourist season. In early September, the resort towns still pulse with the rhythm of summer, and the Municipality of Tsarevo is literally bustling with tourists — mostly Bulgarian families from the big cities, but also foreigners looking for more than just a typical beach holiday.

In this regard, the town of Tsarevo has much to offer for extending the season, which this year is expected to last until the end of the month. In an interview with Radio Bulgaria, the Mayor of Tsarevo Municipality, Marin Kirov, described the outgoing "Summer 2025" season as follows: 

''It has been an extremely successful season! Fortunately for all mayors along the Black Sea coast, the negative trends expected with our entry into Schengen and the growing interest in Greece did not materialize. Bulgarian and foreign tourists once again showed great interest in Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast. The tourist season is still ongoing. We have an exceptionally rich program running through the end of September. Even after the school year begins, children will still be able to come back and visit us on weekends. At the moment, we’re seeing an increase in holiday property sales in the Municipality of Tsarevo. We’ll have more precise statistics toward the end of September. Traditionally, our municipality remains a preferred destination for Bulgarian tourists from major regional cities, as well as for international visitors'', said Marin Kirov.

Infrastructure investments are among the key factors behind this success. In 2025, the municipal budget increased from 30 to 83 million BGN, thanks to European funds and local financing. According to Tsarevo Mayor Marin Kirov, the construction of a new medical center (the only one south of Burgas), the renovation of roads leading to the Strandzha villages of Fazanovo and Brodilovo, and the upgraded road link between the village of Lozenets and the town of Tsarevo, have enhanced safety and tourist access to these areas. In August, occupancy rates at local accommodations exceeded 95%.

In addition to traditional markets like the Czech Republic and Poland, tourists from Germany and Denmark have also returned to Tsarevo and its surroundings this summer.

''This is high- and mid-end tourism - people who also come for the cultural program, the affordable healthcare and the safety they get while they are here — Marin Kirov told Radio Bulgaria.  — My team and I are developing Tsarevo Municipality not just as a unique destination, but as a great place to live and to buy vacation properties. Thus, we extend the tourist season with people who own property here and can either live here permanently or visit regularly''.

The cultural kaleidoscope is a strong asset for attracting tourists. From the Kalandzha Run in May with over 2,000 participants to the LUNAR Festival of Lights (held outside Sofia for the first time) and the Fish Fest on September 6, the municipality’s entertainment program combines sports, art and traditions. On September 11, Tsarevo will once again sing with soul and guitar at the so-called ''Dzhurdzhuna'' or Evening of the Tsarevo Song.

''Our settlements have their own unique profile — we’re not just the municipal center of Tsarevo, we’re also Lozenets, Varvara, Ahtopol, Sinemorets. Each place attracts a different category of tourist. Lozenets is a high-end party destination. And we’re not talking about teenage parties — we’re talking about top-tier venues offering premium services to well-off visitors. Tsarevo has traditionally been the cultural capital of the municipality. Varvara and Sinemorets offer opportunities for alternative tourism — for camping and camper vans. Ahtopol offers a more romantic atmosphere. So we offer different experiences across different locations'', said Marin Kirov in conclusion.
