Euro Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson expressed expectations for the abolition of internal Schengen land borders for Bulgaria and Romania by the end of the year. Commissioner Johansson is attending the two-day EU Justice and Home Affairs Council meeting in Luxembourg.

When Commissioner Johansson visited Bulgaria in April, she pointed out that Bulgaria and Romania are better prepared than other countries to fully implement Schengen rules. "The external borders of the EU are being guarded very well. I see very good cooperation between Bulgaria and Romania with third countries. For instance, there is very good police cooperation with Turkiye", Commissioner Johansson said back then.
